I bought this book as a fun gift for my 14 year old daughter who has dreams of becoming a pediatric surgeon. I’m glad I previewed it because I promptly threw it in the trash. It was unworthy of donating or even recycling. It is HORRIFICALLY and DISGUSTINGLY chauvinistic and so outdated that it turns the stomach. (See comments about running off with one’s “receptionist” and keeping a “close eye” on “her.”) The male reviewers should have been appalled. I certainly was.

I was so disappointed by this book. It was not humorous, it did not provide any interesting medical information and it was not at all informative for a new doctor starting practice. If you are looking for a great book on medical practice, read anything written by Atul Gawande, all of his books are great.

This book is witty and hilarious. I bought it for someone in med school, and they enjoyed reading the stories. Each chapter is really short, and they're not really linked to each other, so this is definitely a book that can be read for fun by a busy person (such as someone in med school). There's also a surprising amount of actual advice hidden in a book aiming to be funny. Would recommend!
