But when Lunden arrives in town for business and to fulfill a promise to her brother, Amelia sees no reason why he should not help her have a few adventures before he seals her fate by helping her brother marry her off.Lunden is a man who is best discovered by the reader as he is slowly revealed, and not by the opinion of another reader. There is such sadness to the man, and honor as well. His past defines him, imprisons him in some ways and to watch him come alive again with hope and possibilities through his arrangement with Amelia was truly a delight. Together they make a formidable, passionate couple. It will be interesting to me to see how or if Ms Bryant will deal with Matthew in a future story. To be frank, the man can do little to redeem himself in my eyes. However, I’ve learned to never close the door to possibilities, especially in the hands and imagination of a skilled storyteller like Anabelle Bryant.London’s Wicked Affair is an intriguing romance filled with passion, secrets, dangers from the past and the present, as well as some truly enjoyable secondary characters that I want to have their own stories told. I lost myself in this world and enjoyed every single minute of that adventure. If you enjoy a really good Regency Romance with believable characters, secrets and a couple that will heal each other eventually, then I’d highly recommend this story for you. I cannot wait to see what is in store for us in the next story in the Midnight Secrets series.*I received an e-ARC of this novel from the publisher via NetGalley. This story is captivating from the very start. There’s no way you won’t fall for Scarsdale and Amelia!Scarsdale pretty much checked out ten years earlier, exiling himself for mistakes, sadness and scandals of the past. He’s such a likable hero, loyal and honorable to his family and friends, but I wanted to shake him at times for being so hard on himself. Though his life is shadowed in sadness, Amelia will prove to lighten his spirit and possibly open his heart to happiness.Amelia is fighting for her future, one based on her wishes and desires, not thrust upon her by the men in her life, as society would dictate. Wow, what a strong and determined woman, intent on arming herself and demanding the pleasures and freedoms she deserves.A great mixture of so many secrets, intrigue, romance and love, “London’s Wicked Affair†is wonderfully written, with amazing storylines, a host of interesting and likable characters, and a roller coaster of emotions. I love how there are wonderful layers deliciously woven throughout this story that remain to be unraveled in future books. A very satisfying read, but also a great tease for what comes next. Highly recommend book #1 in a wonderful new series, Midnight Secrets! And excited to celebrate Anabelle Bryant now in print!
I wanted to like this book. The characters were decent, the story idea was good, but the delivery was awful. The H had constant (and I mean constant) inner turmoil about not being good enough. Now, I can appreciate an I'm-broken-love-me H as much as the next girl. But that's not the case with this H. His turmoil is all about circumstances in his family. The h was fun, confident, and knew what she wanted.But her brother was the main reason this book made me angry. Everything he said was frustrating, meant to belittle her and shrug off her feelings so that he could get some stupid position in a special society for intellectuals. Honestly. It got so bad that I had to simply skip over any parts with him in it because I saw red. All of his words were cruel, manipulative, and frustrating. It was unbearable.Then, the conclusion. We get a quick conversation between brother and sister and apparently all is forgiven, with acknowledgement of wrong on both sides (except that, NO, she wasn't in the wrong at all--so that was also frustrating). And it ends with a quick page of the H and h ending up together after all. It was like the author enjoys the torment and couldn't be bothered with a resolution.Don't read.
I own many books by this author and this did not disappoint. Even though I figured out the secret of the brother, it was still an entertaining and heart felt journey the author took me on.Some reviewer's didn't care for the h, but I loved her. She knew what she wanted and wouldn't settle, that isn't wrong in my book, when all she wanted was a marriage of love. The h's brother seemed to become a villain as the story progressed, and I can't wait to see if he get a story. The next in the series is the h's best friend Charlotte. I was disappointed that we didn't find out what was happening behind the scenes in her marriage, but now I know - she is next.There is lovemaking maybe 4 heat level out of 5, but it was full of passion and love because I enjoyed both the h/H.We have drama, twists, suspense, romance that builds slowly, no cheating, no cliffhanger and an HEA. I loved the ending and hope you take a chance on this first in a series. (ljb)
