Daniel Landinsky is probably the foremost American translator of the Sufi poet Hafiz. More Americans know about the Sufi poet Rumi, in large part because of the translations of Coleman Barks,yet Hafiz will win you over if given the chance. Sufi's are deep spiritually andpoetically.
I absolutely love this book. I read one poem a night and am impressed by the beautiful translation and the easy layout of the book. I would definitely buy more books by Daniel Ladinsky again!

This is such a treat...what a playful sense of humor!
Having read and appreciated this author's "renderings" of dear Hafiz for decades, I was so happy to discover this try at Rumi......Persian Sufi Mystics are, after all, coming from, and then arriving at the same destination, union with our Beloved, right?.....seemed there would be a natural crossover.....But somehow, for me, most of the book left me with just empty words.....seems Hafiz has a claim on Daniel Ladinsky's soul, that he is then able to express......with Rumi, in this book anyway, he never quite makes it real....Coleman Barks for Rumi.....Daniel Ladinsky is all about Hafiz......
