About the Author
Susan Bodtke, MD, is board-certified in both family medicine and hospice and palliative medicine, and is a fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians and a certified hospice medical director. She completed her fellowship training at the Institute for Palliative Medicine at San Diego Hospice. Currently, she is the hospice medical director for Scripps Hospice in San Diego, California. In 2012, she edited Patty Wu’s Palliative Medicine Pocket Companion, second edition. Kathy Ligon, MD, is board-certified in both internal medicine and hospice and palliative medicine, and she is also trained in Eastern medicine. She completed fellowship training at the Institute for Palliative Medicine at San Diego Hospice. Currently, she is a hospice medical director at Presbyterian Healthcare Services in Albuquerque, New Mexico, as well as a palliative medicine consultant in the hospital, clinic, and home settings. She was a special contributor to the 2012 edition of Patty Wu’s Palliative Medicine Pocket Companion.

I just recently started Hospice and was feeling unsure of my practice as it is so different from my prior work in the hospital. This book has helped me close that gap. It has explanations of typical issues seen, interventions, and pearls of care with focus on how to educate family members. A lot of what I read in this book I have heard from my preceptors as well so I know it is spot on. I covered it in a clear protective cover to keep it nice since I use it so much and I bring it with me in my supply bag to each of my patients homes. Definitely worth the purchase.
I love this book. I am a hospice NP and I use it daily for quick references. I highly recommend it to anyone getting into the hospice field. MD, NP, PA, or RN. It had a wealth of information. You won't be disappointed.
This is a succinct handbook and guide. I especially love the inclusion of research information ! I use mine daily-especially helpful for difficult to manage symptoms!!
Sadly disappointed. The font is tiny, about 7-8 points, and light, that this book isn't practical for me to use. I wish I had purchased the kindle version, but I don't want to spend another $52.
Concise, well written. Great pocket reference and study guide for CHPN exam.
Font is too small in the regular book format. I used this in addition to the study guide and did well on the CHPN exam. I have been using it for work and have learned many new tricks! I've been a hospice nurse for 10 years. I wish I had this sooner.
Hard to find good information on Hospice. This is the book that answers many questions with simple to understand answers.
Very detailed and offers a lay person adequate information.
