Review
“Baxter Bell and Nina Zolotow share a wealth of information on using yoga safely to age with greater flexibility, strength, balance, and grace, both physically and psychologically. This user-friendly book will be a boon to yoga practitioners (and would-be practitioners), as well as those who teach them.”—Timothy McCall MD, author of Yoga As Medicine"We might imagine from the title that this is a book only for the seniors among us. But in fact, the practices and supporting material will benefit both young and old alike. It will help the former establish a solid foundation for their future well-being and teach the latter how to maintain that well-being long into their ‘golden’ years." —Richard Rosen, author of Yoga FAQ“All the yoga in the world will not stop us from getting older, but it can help us approach the journey with more grace, agility, and assuredness. Baxter Bell and Nina Zolotow show us how in Yoga for Healthy Aging. Conversational style and gentle humor make their comprehensive medical knowledge and yoga teaching wisdom easily accessible to everyone—from beginning students to advanced teachers. And I love that they've given us concrete ways of celebrating who we are—instead of dreading what we fear we'll become—with each passing decade. A true gift for all ages.”—Linda Sparrowe, author of The Woman’s Book of Yoga & Health and Yoga at Home"Between the two of them are more than 35 years of expertise, and an inestimable welling up of caring for us people as we age. The combination of experience, medical knowledge, and imaginative empathy make this book as warm and interesting as it is useful. “—Loren Fishman, MD, founder of Sciatica.org

It is "A Guide to Lifelong Well-Being"Very informative book to become acquainted with all the benefits of yoga, or to enrich and enhance your yoga practice. Sequences are easy to follow, with no crazy pretzel poses to intimidate you. We all want to keep, or improve, our mobility, balance and feel vital as we age. I recommend this book to keep the juices flowing mentally and physically. The authors present the information in a very down to earth and easy to understand manner.
This is the book I have been waiting for. I am 74 years old and have practiced yoga for many years starting in my 20s. Now, I am ready to customize my yoga practice to meet my present needs. My husband has just started practicing at age 79 and is appreciative of the photographs and the common sense guidelines in the book which we hope will lead to "lifelong well-being."
This is an excellent book that thoroughly explains a variety of yoga practices for working out at home. The descriptions of the poses are well-described and photographed. There are options for strength, flexibility and balance.I recommend this book and would purchase it again.
After hearing Baxter present at an Accessible Yoga conference in San Francisco, I waited patiently for my book to arrive once it was released. The authors are so clear on the presentation and I love the multiple ways they show to do each pose. I teach chair yoga to seniors and others with physical limitations. The Contraindications section is invaluable. This is my new "go-to" resource and I have already introduced much of what I have read into my classes. Thank you so much!
This book is a great companion to Baxter Bell Yoga's videos on YouTube and the Yoga for Healthy Aging blog (recently gone on hiatus). While the techniques are simple, the depth of explanation is just right for anyone to practice or teach. I always enjoy a good hard copy reference, but bought this one on Kindle as well, so I'd have a copy for the road. I've recommended this book to all of my teaching staff and other wellness professionals in the community who are interested in keeping yoga accessible for graceful aging.
I’ve been looking forward to the release of this book and it did not disappoint. Clearly written and well organized for someone new to the practice or a seasoned yogi. I love the sequences offered for practice and with suggested longer hold times and/or dynamic flows you have a well rounded and challenging practice. What a fresh view of aging.
I'm giving copies of Yoga for Healthy Aging to all of my friends. The alternative poses offer everyone realistic options.
Very good at explaining each posture and giving many variations. This is helpful in a class when the instructor may not be able to give all variations for those who have health restrictions.
